Interview with Gianfranco Pacchioni, IAP board member

What are the advantages of being a member of the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP)? Gianfranco Pacchioni, IAP board member, explains what it means to be a member of the IAP, a unique network of some 150 merit-based academies all around the world.

IAP provides a collective mechanism for academies to further strengthen their crucial roles as providers of evidence-based policy and advice. IAP also helps build the capacity of its new and less-experienced member academies, thus strengthening their ability to take on an advisory role in their own nations and to contribute to global discussions.

Gianfranco Pacchioni, IAP board member:

Being members of IAP is important because it connects you to many other academies of the same level around the world, and so you can discuss with your peers the problems that you want to solve. It’s also important to give a voice to academies of emerging countries, or countries where there is not an established tradition in science and technology or humanities, where basically these academies are younger and maybe less relevant, with lower impact in the society.
